Summer Enrichment Courses

This year, PCA is excited to offer a variety of summer enrichment classes for students of all ages! These courses are designed to engage students, dive into topics that may not be part of our regular curriculum, and/or help bridge the summer months in preparation for the upcoming school year. Here are the details:

  • Length of class: 4 weeks

  • Days per Week: Monday-Thursday

  • Hours: 3 hours/day (times may vary depending on class)

  • Dates: To be determined by each class instructor

  • Cost: $300/student (checks payable to PCA)

  • Sign-up and payment deadline: Friday, May 31

Additional Info:

• Each class must have a minimum of 5 students registered and paid by May 31 for the class to be offered. • Students must be registered for the upcoming year to be eligible

Below is a list of classes being offered, the dates and times for each class, and who will be teaching it.

2019 Elementary Summer Enrichment Courses

Elementary Fundamentals in Reading, Writing, and Math

This course will provide skill development and reinforcement for students preparing to transition to the next grade level.

Adventures in Art and Science

This will be a very “hands-on” class as students explore topics in art (elements and technique) and science.

  • Ages: Students going into 2nd - 6th grades

Intro to Computer Applications

Students will learn the basics of computers and computer applications (Microsoft Office, Google Drive, basic coding).

Intro to Spanish

Students will be introduced to the foundations of Spanish including letter sounds, numbers, vocabulary development, common phrases, etc.

  • Ages: Students going into 3rd -5th grades

2019 Middle School/High School Summer Enrichment Courses

Bridge to Algebra

This course is designed for students who want to sharpen their math skills in preparation for Algebra 1 (or a refresher for those going into Algebra 2).  

  • Teacher: Mr. Ruiz  

  • Ages: Students going into 8th and 9th grades (incoming 7th graders with strong math skills welcome, too)  

  • Dates: Weeks of  

    • July 15-18  

    • July 22-25  

    • July 29-Aug 1  

    • Aug 5-8  

  • Days: Monday-Thursday  

  • Time: 9:00-12:00 pm 

  • Extra materials needed: calculator

Bridge to Middle School Math

 

For students transitioning from elementary to middle school, this course will review basic skills and introduce new topics in preparation for 6th grade math. Topics will include fractions, decimals, integers, basic algebra, graphing, and more.

  • Ages: Students going into 6th grade (or students going into 7th grade who would like more reinforcement in preparation for Pre-algebra)

Art Elements

Basic elements of art will be taught and put into practice. Students will engage their creativity as they sketch, paint, sculpt, and design.

Mrs. Moore’s Most Excellent Adventures in Art & Research 

 

Students will research various local destinations (Japanese-American Museum, horse farm, theater, courthouse, beach), then take a field trip to see the site in person, and respond to their visit with creative writing and/or art.

  • Ages: All middle/high school students
